Treoir: Free workshop on shared parenting for workers working with unmarried parents. Funded by Pobal.

Treoir The National Federation of Services for Unmarried Parents and their Children is offering free workshops on shared parenting for workers working with unmarried parents

Shared Parenting – supporting parents in making it work

In Ireland there is an increasing number of families where children are not living with both biological parents. Often families, and those working with them, do not know how to handle family relationships in these situations.

Aims
The aims of this workshop are

  • to raise the awareness of workers of the importance of both parents in the lives of their children
  • to build the capacity of workers to work with these families.

This newly developed workshop focuses on the needs of children in relation to both parents. The workshop will also look at the legal and emotional complexities involved in co-parenting.
At the end of the workshop those working with unmarried parents will

  • understand the importance to children of having both parents involved in their lives
  • have practical hints on how to help make shared parenting work
  • understand the legal complexities of co-parenting where parents are not married to each other regarding - guardianship - access and custody - rights of unmarried fathers
  • feel more confident in dealing with various aspects of co-parenting with parents

All participants will receive:
10 newly developed leaflets on shared parenting and its legal aspects
A copy of Treoir’s Family Links – steps and stages which contains positive pointers for lone parents who are helping their children to understand their family situation. The participatory workshop will be delivered by Treoir’s experienced information staff.
