Transgender Equality Network Ireland: Development Worker

A Joint Working Group of LGBT organisations has acquired comprehensive three-year seed funding from the Atlantic Philanthropies to implement the Building Sustainable LGBT Communities Programme. The programme seeks to deliver an ambitious and exciting set of outcomes for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and communities in Ireland. It aims to promote self esteem, confidence, visibility, health and safety through the development of strong LGBT communities locally, regionally and nationally.
Transgender Equality Network Ireland (TENI) is a startup non-profit organisation supporting the transgender community in Ireland in all its variety. We raise awareness about gender diversity through support, education and advocacy. To implement the transgender strand of the Building Sustainable LGBT Communities Programme, TENI seeks to appoint a part-time Development Worker, who, under the direction of the Co-ordinator, will work to develop trans community organisation, trans-inclusive service delivery and new resources throughout Ireland in order to achieve the Programme’s goals in the areas of support, education, capacity building and advocacy.
We offer:
- A contract for 24 hours per week until 30/09/2012 with the possibility of renewal if sufficient additional funding is secured.
- A salary of max. €35,000 pro rata, depending on experience.
- A responsible role in a dynamic start-up organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build the capacity of existing trans community initiatives and support groups by providing ongoing developmental support, access to resources, good practice guides, training, support in accessing funding, etc.
- Explore opportunities for new groups and trans community initiatives.
- Develop printed and electronic resources and disseminate information on trans issues targeting a wide range of audiences, from trans people to employers, educators, counsellors and healthcare professionals.
- Develop resources and training to build the capacity of the trans community to engage in dialogue and raise awareness about trans issues.
- Provide organisations and agencies with resources, training and advice to help them become more trans-inclusive and build their capacity to support trans people locally.
Requirements:
- Significant professional experience dealing with LGBT community issues and promoting equality and social inclusion. Specific experience with transgender issues would be an advantage.
- Significant professional experience with community development, resource development and capacity building.
- Ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Ability to think both strategically and pragmatically.
- Strong interpersonal and networking skills.
- Excellent presentation skills, both orally and in writing.
- Good computer skills and familiarity with current office software.
- Basic financial and budgetary skills.
- Flexibility and preparedness to represent TENI throughout Ireland, often outside normal office hours.
- A driving licence and own transport would be an advantage.
