One Family: Head of Fundraising

Overall objective:
As Head of Fundraising you will ensure the success and progression of the One Family Fundraising Strategy.

Overall Development

  •     To work in conjunction with the Director and Board of One Family to ensure the funding and development requirements of the One Family Strategy are met
  •     To implement the Fundraising Plan for 2010 and continue to develop the Fundraising Strategy for future years subject to agreement by the Director and Board of One Family
  • Income targets
  •     To reach or exceed the income goals of the annual Fundraising Plan through the work plan
  •     To manage and be accountable for a departmental budget
  • Capacity Building and Development of One Family
  •     To implement, monitor and evaluate the One Family Fundraising Plan through the work plan to ensure sustainable funding streams
  •     To progress the full range of fundraising avenues including Community Fundraising, Corporate Fundraising, Trusts & Foundations, Individual & Major Donations and Legacies
  •     To work in conjunction with the One Family Communications Manager and the Policy & Campaigns Manager to promote the brand, mission and work of One Family to funders, donors and sponsors
  •     To work with and support the One Family Fundraising Committee to progress fundraising issues and events
  •     To maintain all statistics and produce reports as required contributing to One Family publications where appropriate such as One Family Matters, www.onefamily.ie, leaflets etc.

Relationship Building

  •     To develop and maintain quality relationships with current and potential donors, sponsors and volunteers on behalf of One Family
  •     To resource the organisation with quality relationships that will support the long term sustainability of One Family’s development and funding requirements
  • Staff Management
  •     To manage, motivate and supervise the staff and volunteers of the Fundraising team
  • Other
  •     To attend all required staff meetings, trainings and development days
  •     To represent One Family externally where appropriate
  •     To participate in supervision and reviews with the One Family Director
  •     To undertake other areas of work where necessary or as requested by the Director

Please note: The Head of Fundraising in One Family will be responsible to the One Family Director on a daily basis and will be subject to all the Policies and Procedures of One Family. The job description of the Head of Fundraising is designed in response to a strategic planning process and is subject to change in line with the overall strategic goals of the organisation.

Head of Fundraising Person Specification

One Family requires an experienced Head of Fundraising to ensure the success and progression of the One Family Fundraising Strategy through an annual Fundraising Plan and accompanying work plan. Our new Head of Fundraising will use their range of skills and experience to progress and deliver results on all aspects of our Fundraising Plan. We seek and recruit candidates who display excellence and innovation.

Candidates need to:

  •     Have at least three years experience at a senior level in fundraising and development
  •     Have experience in all major aspects of fundraising including regular and major donor recruitment and management; events; community and corporate fundraising; legacy; trusts and foundations
  •     Have experience of preparing, managing and working within budgets
  •     Have outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  •     Have excellent ICT skills
  •     Have excellent planning skills and the ability to think strategically
  •     Be an enthusiastic and motivated self-starter with the ability to work in a team
  •     Have excellent interpersonal, networking and relationship-building skills
  •     Have excellent project management skills
  •     Have a third level qualification or professional training

Although not required, ideal candidates would also:

  •     Have staff supervision/management experience
  •     Have experience of working in the Irish voluntary/community sector
  •     Have knowledge or experience of the issues affecting one-parent families

This post is available on a halftime basis at 17.5 hours per week and the salary is €24K. Hours can be worked flexibly and some may be required in evenings for events and meetings. This is a contract to the end of 2010 but is subject to a probationary period and meeting periodic targets. If all targets are successfully met then the contract may be renewed for 2011.
