Legal Advocacy Internship with Migrant Rights Centre Ireland (MRCI)

The MRCI is a national organisation promoting the empowerment and inclusion of migrant workers and their families at risk of poverty, social exclusion and discrimination.  The MRCI is currently looking for a legal advocacy intern for a 6-month volunteer placement. The role is provide information and assistance regarding workplace exploitation to migrant workers and their families in vulnerable situations and support MRCI’s Workplace Rights Team. The duties are:

  •     To provide information and assistance to migrant workers and their families in relation to workplace rights and to support the Workplace Rights Team
  •     To assist in the assessment, support and administration of the workplace rights cases
  •     To participate in regular analysis of the barriers to legal redress for migrant workers and their families
  •     To assistant in the preparation of legal options and strategies as requested.

Relevant induction and ongoing training will be provided to the successful candidate who will gain valuable knowledge and experience in the area of Irish employment law and practice.

Hours of work: 25 hours a week
Duration: Six months from Monday 1st March 2010
Reports to: Workplace Rights Team Leader
Remuneration: Travel and lunch expenses

Criteria

  •     Fluent in English – competence in other languages an advantage
  •     Good written and oral communication skills
  •     Flexibility and the ability to work under pressure
  •     Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  •     Comfortable with MS Office
  •     Knowledge of Irish employment and immigration law an advantage
