“In Our Shoes” Theatre Company: Performance of "You Wish"

In April 2009 Anne walked into her local bank to open an account. Their response was: “… we are advised not to open accounts for people like you”.  Needless to say Anne was furious, which she expressed in one of the most memorable letters ever written.  Anne is the secretary of a group of self advocates called the Peoples First Group, who meets every Tuesday to discuss the interests and the challenges of their lives. Anne’s actions inspired the Group to start theatre as the platform of their abilities not their disabilities and a vehicle to address some of their issues.  They called it “In Our Shoes” and asked local theatre-based learning company, toBE to support and manage their project.  And that was only the beginning…

The game, which has been released online via http://accessible.southdublin.ie, highlights features that ensure equal access to facilities for a wide variety of users with varying abilities. From accessible parking bays, automated gates, and loop systems at public desks, to adaptable kitchens and Braille and tactile signage

Unique online Irish Local Community Hub launched – mylocaltown.ie

A new community portal has been launched that provides an interactive community website for every village, town and community in Ireland. As well as local listings, there’s the ability for users such as for local groups and organisations such as sports clubs, charities, churches, schools, libraries and special interest groups to add their own content and information – news, events and announcements etc.

The Ulster Bank Sir George Quigley Award 2010

The annual Ulster Bank Sir George Quiqley Award aims to support community groups and charities in their ambition to achieve long-term sustainability.

Applications are now being accepted from suitable community and voluntary groups from the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland for this award. There will be one grant of €10,000 or Sterling equivalent to the winning organisation.

EIL Intercultural Learning Travel Awards 2010

Are you somebody who would benefit from a challenging adventure in another culture? Do you know somebody who has an interest in learning about global issues? If the the answer is yes you are invited to apply or, to encourage somebody to apply, for one of the 31 full or partially funded awards available this year. Fully funded programmes including exciting locations such as 6 weeks in Japan, 4 weeks in Ecuador, 8 weeks in Mexico and 10 weeks in Argentina amongst others and these lucky award winners will have all their programme cost, including flights, accommodation, meals, travel insurance etc covered by EIL Intercultural Learning.
