Galway Rape Crisis Centre

Galway Rape Crisis Centre has been in operation since 1984.

We aim to provide a quality counselling and support service for survivors of sexual violence and abuse. We aim to work towards an end to cultural and societal tolerance of sexual violence and abuse. We work from a feminist philosophy.

Ethos
As an organisation, we have our roots in feminism. This means we believe that sexual violence against women, children and also men is not an individual, but a societal issue. In our opinion it is fostered by the existing patriarchal system. Sexual violence, no matter what the individual motivation behind it, is an abuse of power, which serves to humiliate and degrade the person on the receiving end.
