NICEM

The Northern Ireland Council for Ethnic Minorities (NICEM) is the voice of ethnic minority communities in Northen Ireland. It directly represents their interest and is a forum to promote the participation of those ethnic minority communities.

In pursuit of justice, equality and dignity, NICEM works for social change in relation to race relations and in particular for the elimination of racial discrimination.

NICEM is a voluntary sector membership umbrella organisation working on behalf of ethnic minorities in Northern Ireland

NICEM aims to:

  1. Identify and respond to the needs of minority ethnic communities;
  2. Provide training for potential leaders from within minority ethnic communities;
  3. Raise awareness and understanding of individual and institutional discrimination on the grounds of ethnic origin, nationality and race;
  4. Promote democratic and participative models of organisation;
  5. Promote the interests of minority ethnic communities facing social injustice by:
    • advocacy and advice
    • education and training
    • dissemination of information
    • promotion of culture and ethnic identity
    • joint working with those organisations and groups which wish to defend and articulate the views of such sectors of society
