Tipperary Peace Convention is a voluntary organisation based in Tipperary Town. The organisation has been in existence for 25 years promoting the concept of peace through music, song, discussion and debate. The Peace Convention relies on local funding and some grants from bodies such as the Peace and Reconciliation Fund to fund its activities. The organisation is held in very high esteem both nationally & internationally and is deeply committed to the promotion of peace and reconciliation.
The Convention annually hosts an International Festival of Peace. During the Festival the presentation of the Tipperary International Peace Award will take place. The Peace Award has in the past been presented to Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev, Adi Roche, Bob Geldof, Mona Juul & Terje Larsen, the late Senator Gordon Wilson, Senator George Mitchell, Rudy Giuliani and John O'Shea of
GOAL.
Along with the presentation of the Peace Award the Convention also hosts an International Song of Peace Contest. Composers and singers from all over the world travel to Tipperary to take part in the Contest.
