The Simon Community is a caring and campaigning movement that has been working with homeless people in Ireland since 1969. Today there are Simon Communities in Cork, Dublin, Dundalk and Galway and each is autonomous.

Together they form a national federation called the Simon Community of Ireland.

Established in 1972, the Federation Office acts as the co-ordinating, servicing, and representative body for the Simon Community of Ireland Federation.

The Federation Office is responsible for recruiting and interviewing full-time volunteers for the Communities. It also organizes regular training workshops for full-time volunteers.

The Federation Office handles requests for information about homelessness and the work of the Simon Community; these requests usually come from students, teachers, community groups, and the general public. The Office publishes and distributes publications such as the quarterly Simon Newsletter, the Profile leaflet, and the Annual Report. It also liaises with the media to raise awareness about issues relating to housing and homelessness. One of the Office's newest initiatives is an education pack on homelessness for use in secondary schools.

It publishes regular reports on homelessness, makes submissions to Government and statutory authorities recommending changes in policy and practice, and co-operates with other voluntary groups in lobbying for more enlightened public policy on specific issues.

It raises funds on a national basis for the Simon Community's work. Fundraising activities include events, direct mail campaigns, applications to foundations and Government funding bodies, and corporate sponsorships.
