Louth/Meath ISPCC: Volunteers for Childline Service

About The ISPCC

The ISPCC is the national child protection charity. Its range of services include intervention services with individual children and families, child mentoring, parent mentoring and outreach services. Through Childline, it provides a 24-hour listening service for children, via telephone, internet and web-based services. The ISPCC advocates on behalf of children, promotes children’s rights and seeks to effect policy and legislative change to enhance the safety, security and lives of children in Ireland. In order to support this range of activity, the organisation fundraises – in communities, with individual supporters, with corporate partners and online.

About Childline

Childline is an active listening service for all children, available 24-hours a day. Unlike any other children’s service, it is unique in its availability, accessibility and affordability to children. It can be accessed from anywhere in Ireland, it is a free service to children, it is anonymous and confidential. Childline uses systems that children are familiar and comfortable with, including phone, text and online chat.

About the Role

The Louth/Meath Branch of the ISPCC is recruiting for our Childline service based in Drogheda, Co. Louth. Volunteering with the ISPCC is subject to successful completion of our training course and adherence to selection criteria. Prospective Childline Volunteers are provided with extensive training in order to equip them with the skills needed to actively listen to children and young people. Childline provides support via phone, text and online chats. Volunteers should have a genuine desire to listen to children, be child-centred and non-judgemental. Once active, volunteers are required to commit to one 4 hour shift per week in order to provide this service.  Volunteers are required for weekend and evening shifts.
