About YMCA West Dublin
The YMCA is a voluntary organisation that works with children, young people, families and the community, with particular regard to those who are disadvantaged and disaffected. The YMCA believes in supporting young people to achieve their potential and their goals. Young people should be given the opportunity to participate actively in their community. The YMCA, while underpinned by Christian principles, works with people of all faiths and of none, responds to local need and seeks to share and learn from being a part of a national and international movement.T
Our next training is at the Lucan Youth Centre on Saturday 14th and Sunday 15th January 2017.
One2one is a listening and activity based mentoring service run by YMCA Ireland which engages trained mentors to offer weekly One2One support to ‘vulnerable’ young people aged 8- 18 years. The young person is identified by a referring organisation as being in need of support.
One2One Mentoring normally requires a commitment from the mentor to meeting the young person for about an hour each week for 10 to 12 months to maximise positive outcomes. An exit strategy is developed with each mentee in the course of the final three months of the mentoring relationship. Each mentor receives at least 20 hours of training and must participate fully in support and supervision of their work.
