About Activelink
Our mission statement:
"Activelink works with non-profit organisations to develop online communications in the public interest, to promote action and participation and to foster the sharing of ideas, experience and information for a better world."
The 'spark' in our logo symbolises how we see our role - we hope to be an enabling force for positive change. Our symbol is in the process of changing from a lightning-like symbol (you can probably see it in the address field in your web browser) to a lit fuse (as in the page header above).
Activelink is run by a company called Hyperlink, which carried out major cost-cutting exercises in 2011 and reduced the range of services it offers in order to focus entirely on running Activelink. Hyperlink migrated its web and mailing servers to Germany and relocated its offices from Dublin 4 to Dublin 8. We are constrained in how quickly we can roll out new services by our unorthodox funding model. We are not eligible for most philanthropic funding schemes as we are not a charity, nor do we intend to become one - Hyperlink is too small a company to go down this path.
Major changes are coming in 2012
Having spent 2011 in a holding pattern while we reduced our costs, we are now in a position to redevelop this web site, and also to roll out a new service, the Activelink Web Exchange. We hope to have this running in an embryonic form by the Summer of 2012. What's it about? It will help smaller organisations to establish or maintain a top-notch web presence at little or no cost - helping them to spread their message, while freeing scarce funds to be put to use where they really count.

Dedicated to Giancarlo Ramaioli 1959-2009
Activelink grew out of the Community Exchange mailing list, a project that Giancarlo Ramaioli founded in 1999, while he was a director of the Public Communications Centre (PCC). Giancarlo left the PCC in 2001 to become a director of Hyperlink and to launch the Activelink web site, which was the web-facet of Community Exchange. Over time Giancarlo built Activelink into a premier resource for the non-profit sector, and the Community Exchange mailings became so large that they were split into two separate mailings, Activelink Community Exchange, and Activelink Jobs & Volunteering. Giancarlo became ill in 2006, but remained at the helm of Activelink right up until April 2009. He passed away in May 2009. Activelink is now managed by Giancarlo's colleagues from Hyperlink, and we strive to keep its ethos true to his vision. |
